CANNON PLAYER RULES OF CONDUCT * Remember the Golden Rule - Always treat your teammates, coaches, opponents and officials the way you would like to be treated. That means respect, dignity, and sportsmanship at all times. Be a Good Sport - Play fair. Be a leader. Set the example. Rise above poor behavior. Have fun. Listen to Your Coach - Coaches volunteer their own time to work with your team. Don’t waste that time. If you’re on the team, your job is to listen attentively to the coach. Be Patient with Your Teammates - Every player has strengths and weaknesses. Be patient with your teammates as they improve their games. Basketball is a team sport. Success can only come when the entire team plays well together. Learn the Rules - Read the rule book. You can’t claim to “know the game” if you don’t know the rules. Never Question an Official - Officials do not care who wins and they have no favorite players. Officials want nothing more than a game that is fair and safe. And that’s no easy job. Make it easier by not talking back to an official. Play Hard - Hustle never goes out of style. Coaches love players who try a little harder on defense, jump a little higher for rebounds, and dive a little more for those loose balls. Include Your Parents - Your parents want to see you succeed. Let them into your basketball world, but remind them there are ups and downs and your goal is to have fun. Have Fun - It’s a simple concept. Win or lose, try to enjoy every moment on the court. I AGREE PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT * • Understand and endorse the purpose of our program: to help boys become men of empathy and integrity who will lead, be responsible, and change the world for good. • Support the coaches by applauding behavior in your child and his teammates that demonstrates characteristics of integrity, empathy, sacrifice, and responsibility. • Acknowledge and appreciate players’ growth toward maturity and their effort toward establishing stronger relationships with teammates, coaches, and themselves. • Affirm your son and his teammates when good character, healthy sportsmanship, and other centered behavior are displayed. Do not affirm only his athletic performance or a victory. • Serve as role models for our players, talking politely and acting courteously toward coaches, officials, other parents, visiting team parents, and spectators at practices, games and meetings. • Model good sportsmanship. Acknowledge and applaud the efforts of team members and opponents. Accept defeat graciously by congratulating the members of the opposing team on a game well played. Support the team regardless of how much or how little your son plays or what the win-loss record is. • Encourage your child and his teammates with positive statements, even when they make mistakes. At every practice they are growing physically and emotionally. Atevery practice they are learning moral and ethical lessons. At every practice they are developing character. • Refrain from boasting about your child’s accomplishments. • When problems or questions arise, please have your son present the problem to his position coach. We want players to develop self-advocacy. After meeting with this position coach, if the issue requires more clarity, contact the head coach. • Because I am a parent with the power and platform to make a positive difference in the life of every player, I commit to this code of conduct. When failing to live up to these standards, I will allow for accountability and take responsibly for my actions. I AGREE Disciplinable Behavior * Cannon Prep Basketball Training and Travel Team both take pride in the development of our kids on and off the court. Any misbehavior or conduct from a team member/parent during a game, practice, or event can result in extra conditioning, reduction of game time or removal from our program. Any conduct or behavior at a Cannon Prep practice, game, or event that is deemed inappropriate will be considered cause for not being permitted to attend future events. The CP coaching staff will make the decision on what is deemed inappropriate and will determine what actions to take. Playing Time- Reminder playing time is not guaranteed. We kindly ask that all participants and their families acknowledge and remember that we are a travel, competitive AAU team. Attendance at all practices is highly encouraged.
